Hailing from the small village of Kastoria, Greece, Nicholas Lambrinides opened his first restaurant overlooking the skyline of Cincinnati and began serving dishes adorned with his signature chili sauce in 1949.
Made from a secret blend of spices that pays tribute to his Greek heritage, Lambrinides’s chili quickly became a Cincinnati tradition known for its accompaniment to hot dogs and spaghetti.
Today, Skyline Chili is the largest of a handful of restaurants famous for bringing national attention to the popular Cincinnati-style chili, a tangy tomato-based meat sauce that’s consumed as a topping rather than on its own, unlike the more commonly known chili con carne.
Try Skyline Chili on hot dogs or spaghetti, and complement it with diced onions, shredded cheddar cheese or your choice of beans.
